10. Alpaca
This cuddly creature is related to the llama and is native to the Andes. Interestingly enough there are no wild Alpacas. Indigenous people domesticated other similar camelid species such as the vicuna and the guanaco and alpacas are highly valued for their soft wool. Domesticated alpacas and their pals the llamas could be more than 6,000 years old.

9. Arctic Fox
One of the fluffiest and cutest creatures is the Arctic Fox. It’s a cool creature that is right at home in the snow and freezing temperatures. Also they look lily white but can actually change their colour to brown or grey when the weather gets warmer so they can camouflage better. As its name indicates, they are found throughout the entire Arctic tundra from Alaska, to Canada, to Russia, Scandinavia and even Iceland.

8. Black & White Ruffed Lemur
This next fluffy animal is probably familiar from the Madagascar movies but of course there’s more to the lemur than just dancing round the rainforest making jokes. In some ways they’re quite mysterious in that not much is known about how they’re distributed across their habitats.

7. Chinchilla
Though a rodent might not be the first thing you think of when looking for a pet, you might be surprised to find out this fluffy thing is just that! As well as being known for their super soft fur, the chinchilla - part of the Chinchillidae family - is regarded as a sociable creature so if you’re getting one, you should actually get 2 so that they don’t get lonely.

6. Ducklings
All together now… awww! The chinchilla was pretty cute but it’s got competition now in the shape of these adorable baby ducks. Not that they lead very relaxing lives - the birth of a duckling can be a really hazardous thing for a few reasons. Having left the nest after 10 days of relative comfort, they have to tackle the water. You know that saying about taking to something ‘Like a duck to water?’

5. Angora Rabbit
If you’ve heard of the Angora rabbit it’s probably because of the clothing industry. Angora wool is much sought after but has a complicated history and animal rights groups are not happy about the way they’re treated. Similar to the chinchillas, but don’t worry, I’m here to tell you about these adorable little rabbits themselves and not how they are used…

4. Pallas Cat
This feline friend, or to be more precise wildcat, probably wins the title of most famous animal on this list, at least in 21st century terms. Its image has gone viral as memes as well as making the now obligatory appearance on YouTube. Why’s that? Because despite it being a wildcat who could probably claw your face off, the Pallas Cat is super cute.

3. Pomeranian
These pint-sized dogs are packed with personality and are also very versatile! Meet the Pomeranian, a 7 inch (0.1m) pooch with a double layer of fur. Their fox-like face and brave personality have made them a favorite throughout history.
While they come in a small package, the pomeranian is quick, active, and not afraid to get in anyone’s face!!

2. Red Panda
With its russet colouring, white head markings, black limbs and of course, that stripy tail, the red panda is one amazing little creature. It can be found in forest areas of Central China, Burma, and Nepal and half the population is based in the Eastern Himalayas. The red panda can grow to a length of 2 ft (0.6 m) and is often compared to the size of a domestic cat.

1. Snow Leopard
We’ve seen some impressive kitties before but the snow leopard may take the crown! It’s a remarkable big cat that roams across its home in the Central Asian mountains. This loner leopard is fluffy for sure but it has to be to brave those icy winds. The snow leopard is a carnivore but don’t worry if you run into it. For starters it tends to chow down on blue sheep, argali (which is another kind of sheep) and ibex.

8. PUSHA AND HER SQUIRRELS
Earlier this year, a cat named Pusha adopted four squirrels in southern Crimea’s Bakhchisaray Miniature Park. They were first introduced to each other by local residents. The squirrels were initially afraid of Pusha, according to the park’s staff, but they eventually grew accustomed to her and allowed her to raise them as her own, alongside her own four kittens.

7. MOLLY AND POSS
Molly the beagle was distraught after losing her litter of puppies. The grieving mama dog was beside herself with grief for several days. She then met Poss, a baby possum, on the Moyles Gazette cattle farm she lives on in Victoria, Australia. Poss had apparently been abandoned by her mom.

6. AMIRA AND JUNIOR
Midway through 2018, a dog named Amira adopted a stray kitten named Junior in war-torn Aleppo, Syria. Amira was pregnant when she was taken in by Mohammed Alaa Aljaleel, the famous ‘Cat Man of Aleppo.’ Aljaleel is a former paramedic who began rescuing stray animals in 2013. Shortly after arriving at his sanctuary, Amir lost her three puppies.

5. ELEPHANTS AND DOGS
Thailand’s Elephant Nature Park is a sanctuary for both elephants and dogs, disproving the notion that elephants are afraid of dogs and other misconceptions about the relationship between the two species. The dog program at Elephant Nature Park began after catastrophic floods in Thailand toward the end of 2011 left many dogs homeless.

4. JAMILA AND MEWIE
At just one month old, Jamila the rhino was brought to The Rhino Orphanage in the Limpopo province of South Africa with stab wounds in her back. Jamila’s rescuers believe that she was injured while trying to protect her mom from poachers, given her feisty and fearless personality.

3. ROCKET LARRY AND PUKA
Rocket Larry the turtle and Puka the dog were both rescued by a Los Angeles woman named Christine Hilberg, who gave them a forever home when they had nowhere else to go. They became instant friends. Hilberg and her boyfriend adopted Larry, an African spurred tortoise, in 2009 from a couple that could no longer care for him, as they were overwhelmed by the many other animals they were already caring for.

2. BISCUIT AND ROSE
Biscuit the Chihuahua and Rose the chicken have an odd relationship, but it works for them. At times, Biscuit gets a bit bossy toward Rose, but it’s also not unusual to see the two cuddling side-by-side. They also love exploring together outdoors.

1. SASHA, JACK, AND TWEAKS - THE “RAT PACK”
Everyone should know about this unique trio! Meet Sasha the dog, Jack the cat, and Tweaks the rat, three animals who were adopted together after refusing to be separated at a Wisconsin animal shelter. The trio were already together before they ended up at the shelter. Unfortunately, their first owner was unable to care for them and surrendered them to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society in March of 2017.

10. The Humanity Star
In January of 2018, a private US space company, called Rocket Lab, launched a satellite called the ‘Humanity Star' into orbit. Unlike most other satellites, this one didn't have a scientific, military, or civil purpose… instead, the 3 feet in diameter disco ball-like object was intended, according to its designers, to be a ‘bright symbol and reminder to all on earth about our fragile place in the universe'.

9. Kosmos 2430
Launched in 2007, the Russian built Kosmos 2430 was a part of the Russian space forces' Oko programme. Crammed full of observation equipment, such as optical telescopes and infrared sensors, its primary mission was to detect ground-based missile launches.

8. Skylab
Skylab was America's first space station and was the home to rotating astronaut crews between May 1973 and February of 1974. It was abandoned with plans to use a newly developed spacecraft, the shuttle, to reactivate it… but with no way to take it to a higher orbit, and delays in the space shuttle program, the station re-entered the earth's atmosphere in 1979 over the southern Indian Ocean.

7. RXTE
NASA's Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer, also known as RXTE, was launched in 1995 with a mission to monitor the environments of black holes and neutron stars by looking at the x-ray wavelengths and hoping to uncover new data about the objects.

6. The GOCE Satellite
The European Space Agency’s ‘GOCE’ satellite was launched in 2009 to map the earth’s gravitational field and oceans in far greater detail than had ever been done before. Costing more than 450 million dollars, the 1 ton, Xenon-ion propelled probe collected extensive valuable readings but, eventually, was destined to succumb to the gravitational forces that it had been measuring.

5. Salyut-7
Salyut-7 was a Russian space station that orbited the earth between 1982 and 1991. It was crewed for the first 4 years, was the 10th space station to enter orbit, and was the last one of the Salyut program.

4. The UARS Satellite
NASA's Upper Earth Research Satellite, or UARS for short, was launched in 1991 to study the earth's atmosphere- with a particular focus on the ozone layer. Weighing 13,000 pounds, it was released by the Shuttle Discovery and operated at an altitude of 370 miles.

3. Tiangong-1 Space Station
China's first space station, Tiangong-1, was a manned laboratory that was in orbit between 2011 and 2018. With a name meaning ‘Heavenly Palace', the craft was used by the Chinese Space Agency to perfect docking capabilities and surpassed its initial intended lifespan by a number of years. As the first part of the Tiangong program, it paved the way for future Chinese missions.

2. Kosmos 954
Launched by the Soviet Union in 1977, Kosmos 954 was the most dangerous satellite re-entry that’s ever happened. The probe was a reconnaissance satellite as a part of the RORSAT programme that monitored ocean traffic with radar.

1. Mir
Before the ISS was launched, the Mir space station was the main permanent base in orbit that hosted crews from agencies across the world. It was initially launched in 1986 and was at the time the largest artificial satellite in orbit. Built with a modular design, extra parts were added over the following ten years, and it was where the record for the longest human spaceflight happened- when Valeri Polyakov lived there for just under 438 days.

10. Mutilated Great White Sharks
During a 3 day period in May of 2017, four of the world’s most fearsome predators washed up on the beaches of South Africa’s Western Cape province. The following month, another Great White Shark was found… and each of them was mutilated in a similar way. They were all missing chunks out of their bodies as well as their livers, which had been ripped out, and there were other signs of mutilations- such as missing stomachs and testes.

9. Palm Oil
In 2017, 13 beaches in Hong Kong had to be closed because of disgusting deposits that began to be washed ashore. The Styrofoam-like clumps were soon discovered to be made up of palm oil, which had been released into the ocean during the collision of two ships in the Pearl River estuary.

8. Ice Balls
In 2013, residents around Lake Michigan found hundreds of giant ice balls along the shoreline. Each of them weighed as much as 50 pounds and, surprisingly, they’re actually quite common. They occur during the winter, as a result of a weather phenomenon that sees a combination of wind and wave action against the shore.

7. 200 Million-Year-Old Fossil
Storms are often responsible for churning up all kinds of material from the sea and depositing it on the beach. In 2014, a beachcomber on the Jurassic Coast, in the English county of Dorset, made an incredible discovery. Embedded in the rocks, he found the skeleton of a five-foot long, toothy animal that resembled a dolphin- but actually turned out to be a 200 million-year-old Ichthyosaur.

6. Deep Sea Fish
In 2015, two co-workers were walking along the beach on Catalina Island in California, when they came across a strange 13.5-foot long carcass. It was unlike anything they had seen before and is something rarely seen by most people- as it was a deep sea oarfish that usually lives at depths of between 660 and 3000 feet.

5. Sea Pickles
It may not be the greatest surprise to hear that weird things have washed up on the beaches of Oregon, but the waters are full of peculiar jelly-like translucent creatures that look like slugs. They first began appearing in 2015, but by 2017 there were millions in the region, with many of them washing up on the shoreline.

4. Cannonballs
In Charleston, South Carolina, live cannonballs from the Revolutionary and Civil wars are often found around the city… and wash up on the shores. Most of them are inactive lumps of metal, but others still have the ability to explode. They're most commonly found during construction projects, but following Hurricane Matthew in 2016, 15 civil war cannonballs washed ashore on Folly Beach.

3. E.T
In 2011, 76-year-old Margaret Wells of Cosham, in England, was devastated when her home was robbed. They took all of her jewelry, an iron, and her beloved life-sized E.T figure that her daughter had made for her. She thought she'd never see it again, but was surprised in early 2012 when she received a call from police to tell her that they had found it!!

2. Giant Sea Monster
The communities living on Seram island in Indonesia rely on the sea for their livelihoods and probably have seen virtually everything that it has to offer. In 2017, though, something washed up on the shore of Hulung beach that made them all realize that there were mysterious things in the depths.

1. Whiskey Galore
It’s not often that something great washes ashore but, in 1941, residents of the Outer Hebrides in Scotland were in for a treat. On the morning of February 5th, the SS Politician was passing by- having left Liverpool, England, on its way to Kingston, Jamaica, and New Orleans.

10. Saint Bernard
At a height of up to 2.5 feet and a weight of up to 180 pounds, it’s no wonder the Saint Bernard is considered one of the strongest dog breeds in the world. In fact, the American Kennel Club (AKC) recommends training Saint Bernards as puppies to prevent them from sneaking food from the dinner table, since they’re tall enough to reach, or they can also accidentally knock people over!!

9. Mastiff
At first glance, the mastiff is pretty intimidating! I mean these dogs are giants! Standing around 2.5 feet tall at the shoulders, they often outweigh a grown man. In addition to its colossal size, the mastiff is extremely muscular, and its strength matches its appearance. It also has an incredible bite strength that varies according to the specific breed - for example, the English mastiff has a bite strength of 552 pounds per square inch, while the Dogo Canario’s bite strength ranks around 540 pounds per square inch.

8. Rottweiler
Some powerful dogs bump into people and things by accident like a bull in a China shop, seemingly unaware of their size. As an ancient herding breed, however, the Rottweiler does this on purpose when it wants people to fall in line. Although Rottweilers can be trained well, they’re typically not recommended for households with elderly people or young children, due partially to this tendency to knock people over!

7. Carpathian Shepherd
The Carpathian shepherd is a very strong dog with a wolfish appearance. Although this breed has a less stocky build than some dogs, it still can weigh up to 100 lbs and it’s an incredibly powerful watchdog that was originally bred for protecting sheep from predators in mountainous terrain.

6. Doberman Pinscher
With a maximum weight of 90 pounds and a tall, muscular frame, the Doberman Pinscher is leaner than some of the other powerful dog breeds. However, what it lacks in bulk, the Doberman Pinscher makes up for with its high energy, quick speed, tough nature, and no-nonsense loyalty. It also has a bite strength of 230 pounds per square inch, ranking it among the top 15 dog breeds in that category.

5. Newfoundland
The imposing, heavy Newfoundland stands up to 28 inches tall and weighs as much as 150 pounds. It’s one of the world’s largest dog breeds and requires abundant yard space and exercise to stay healthy. Does it remind you of another animal? With its massive head and thick fur, many people say the Newfoundland can get confused with a bear!!

4. Alaskan Malamute
The Alaskan malamute reaches a maximum height of 25 inches and typically weighs no more than 85 pounds, and is not among the most powerful dog breeds based on size alone.

3. Dogo Argentino
The Dogo Argentino is a pack dog that was originally bred for hunting wild boar and pumas, so this dog is no joke. I mean, pumas! Really?! This supremely athletic, highly-intelligent breed is known for its quick responsiveness, as well as its sheer physical strength. With a muscular frame, intense energy, and a great lung capacity, the Dogo Argentino’s power is explosive to be able to keep up with its prey.

2. Cane Corso
The Cane Corso stands at nearly 2.5 feet at the shoulder and often weighs over 100 pounds. This robust Italian breed has the natural appearance of a bodyguard, with a broad head, wide muzzle, and a large, muscular frame. The Cane Corso is an ancient breed that goes back to Roman times. They descend from a type of dog known as mollosers which were bred by the Greek Molossi tribe.

1. Kangal
Alright you guys! For those of you who guessed, here is the answer!! A dog’s strength can be measured in various ways, including its body and bite, as noted by journalist Olivia Grisham, who specializes in animal care. It’s therefore difficult to single out a specific breed as the world’s most powerful.

10. The Trolleborg Labyrinth
The island of Bla Jungfrun in Sweden has long been the subject of local folklore, with stories of dark curses and witchcraft. This places is spooky, and requires visitors to stick to the paths, and no one can visit the island after dark. There are a few unusual structures on the island that increases the mystery.

9. The Parisian Catacombs
The ground beneath Paris, France, was formed by an ocean that once covered the country 45 million years ago. The multiple layers of sediment left by the water became limestone, which itself is a useful building material. Since the Roman times, this limestone has been excavated to construct the city- leaving a vast network of tunnels and quarries beneath the ground creating a kind of maze!

8. The Lost Egyptian Labyrinth
You’ll have heard of the great pyramids and the Sphinx, but possibly the greatest building of the Egyptian empire that you’ve never heard of is the Egyptian Labyrinth. Unless you’ve seen my video on Mysterious Things in Egypt That No One Can Explain of course!!

7. Underground Roman Labyrinth
Rome has been around for a loooong time! Because it's such an ancient city, it’ll be no surprise that archaeologists are often making new discoveries all over the place. The current Romans are quite annoyed at this since they’ve been trying to get a metro for years. But whenever they start making advances, new things come up and all work has to stop until the archaeologists give it the green light...maybe 10 months later!

6. Chartres Labyrinth
The cathedral of Chartres was built during the height of the gothic movement in France and was designed to be higher, wider, and brighter than any others. Construction began in 1194 and was completed in 1221- with the labyrinth being built in the nave in the final 5 years. It's not the most elaborate of labyrinths you'll see within a church, but it's definitely one of the most famous in the world.

5. Danish Stone Age Labyrinth
In 2017, Danish archaeologists announced the discovery of what appeared to be a stone age labyrinth. It was uncovered in Stevns, on the east coast of Denmark, when the foundations were being laid for a new sports complex! Now it has baffled those trying to understand its purpose.

4. The City of Derinkuyu
The ancient underground city of Derinkuyu is an astonishing structure designed to confuse and deter invaders to protect those that lived there. It’s one of the largest labyrinth designs ever made, and still holds secrets waiting to be uncovered.

3. Bara Imambara
Bara Imambara is a religious building in the city of Lucknow in India. It was built by the ruler of the northern state of Awadh in 1784, and its name literally means the ‘big sacred hall’. As well as the large central hall, the building is made up of a mosque and a large labyrinth, which was built unintentionally as a way to support the larger building structure.

2. The Stone Labyrinths of Bolshoi Zayatsky
So, where would you think the highest concentration of ancient labyrinths on the planet is? The answer, perhaps surprisingly, is on a collection of small islands in Russia's White Sea. The Solovetsky Islands are home to 35 Neolithic labyrinths, dating back to around 3000 BC!!.

1. The Cretan Labyrinth
Of all the labyrinths in the world, undoubtedly the most famous is the one from Greek legend that’s located on the island of Crete… or is it? According to the myth, this labyrinth was built for King Minos by his master craftsman, Daedalus to contain the Minotaur monster, the child of his wife and a bull. But that’s a whole other story.

10. Robobee
First unveiled in 2013, Harvard’s Robobee project is still being continuously developed. At its core is a simple idea, it’s a miniature drone influenced by designs found in the insect world. Weighing just 175 mg, (that’s 14 times lighter than a penny), it looks almost delicate as you can see in this picture from Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

9. Anti Reflective Film
Moths have developed a number of ingenious adaptations to enable them to survive, and scientists are taking inspiration from them to develop new technologies. In particular, there's a water repellent coating on their eyes that allows them to see at night, while being one of the least reflective surfaces seen anywhere in nature. This means that they're virtually invisible to predators at night, but there's a range of ways that this can be useful.

8. The Dew Bank Water Bottle
A beetle found in the Namibian desert, known as the ony-macris ungui-cularis, finds itself in an incredibly dry environment, so it has developed a unique way of collecting water. Early in the morning while fog covers the sand dunes, the beetle climbs to high points and positions itself in a way that encourages dew to collect for it to drink.

7. facetVISION Camera
The face of photography is changing with the prevalence of smartphones that are equipped with powerful cameras, but they’re about to get a whole lot better. Much of the thickness of a smartphone is dictated by the size of the camera lens, which are typically no smaller than 5mm. But what if this could be reduced to just 2mm?

6. Antenna
There’s a species of small parasitic fly, called the Ormia ochracea, which has an incredibly strong sense of hearing. The females have developed this ability to allow them to effectively track male crickets by listening out for their chirping and then laying their eggs on them. Unfortunately for the crickets, when the eggs hatch their larvae use their host as their first meal, but that’s a more gruesome story for another day.

5. Mirasol Low Voltage Display
E-readers began life using e-ink that was limited to certain colors and had readability issues in sunlight so it was a natural step to look at new ways to improve their ability… and to do this, designers took inspiration from the animal kingdom- in particular, butterflies.

4. The Dragonfly
As designers plan the buildings of the future, they need to take sustainability and eco-consciousness into account. One plan (of many) created by the Belgian architect Vincent Callebaut has taken inspiration from the design of the dragonfly to achieve these aims.

3. Honeycomb Tires
For the most part, tires that rely on being filled by air work perfectly fine, but what if there was an alternative solution? Spurred on by difficulties faced by military vehicles where even ‘run flat' tires don't work very well, Resilient Technologies and Wisconsin-Madison's Polymer Engineering Centre realized that a honeycomb design was ideal.

2. Microneedle
People with aichmophobia are scared of sharp objects, such as needles… but even if you don't have the phobia, getting an injection can be a rather unpleasant experience. This is partly because of the procedure taking place, but also because of the size of needle that’s being inserted. But what if the needle could be much smaller? That’s what researchers are hoping will be the case after taking inspiration from our friend, the Mosquito.

1. Mondo Spider Electric Vehicle
This brings us to probably the coolest invention to have ever been built… the Mondo Spider Electric Vehicle. It was originally built by a team from Vancouver for Burning Man in 2006 but has recently been retrofitted to remove the petrol engine and replace it with a 5kWh (Kilowatt hour) Lithium Ion battery. The entire vehicle weighs 1600 pounds, is five feet tall and eight feet long. The skull topped throttles control the hydraulic powered arms, with a control system based on what you’d find in a tractor.
